The PMI Seeker™ is a compact, utility-grade power quality recorder designed for electric utilities, field engineers, and smart grid deployments. Built for both investigative troubleshooting and long-term monitoring, the Seeker combines a full-featured power quality monitor, integrated wireless communications, and optional GPS timestamping into a rugged, field-ready device.

Housed in a durable NEMA 4X weatherproof enclosure, measuring just 5.06”x 3.00”x 1.81”, and weighing under one pound, the Seeker power quality system installs quickly with no external power supply, separate communication device, or protective enclosure required. As a line-powered power monitor, the unit draws power directly from the monitored line, making installation as simple as connecting voltage leads and current transformers. Once installed, the PMI Seeker immediately begins recording and transmitting power quality data.

Cloud-Based Power Quality Monitoring

The Seeker streams continuous PQ data to PMI’s PQ Canvass which offers cloud-based power quality monitoring. Using Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or an optional LTE cellular power monitor configuration, the Seeker streams real-time measurements to the cloud where engineers can view live dashboards, event reports, waveform captures, and long-term interval data from any web browser.

Unlike traditional standalone recorders, the PMI Seeker provides unlimited historical storage through its cloud platform while also maintaining onboard memory for local event recording. Automated alerts notify operators of voltage disturbances, power anomalies, or custom trigger conditions via email or SMS.

Smart Grid and SCADA Integration

Designed for modern utility infrastructure, the Seeker functions as both a smart grid power monitor and a distribution line power monitor. It integrates directly with SCADA systems via DNP or MODBUS power monitor protocols over Wi-Fi, LTE cellular, or Ethernet networks.

This SCADA power quality recorder also supports dual Form C relay outputs (optional) and digital inputs, enabling automated control of distributed generation equipment or monitoring of external field devices.

Advanced Power Quality Measurement

The Seeker delivers high-resolution analysis with RMS measurement across four voltage and four current channels. Sampling at 4,166 samples per cycle, it is a true RMS voltage current recorder and offers detailed harmonic analysis to the 51st order.

FAQ

Does the Seeker support SCADA integration?

Yes. It provides full DNP and MODBUS protocol support over Wi-Fi, cellular, or Ethernet, making it easy to integrate with existing SCADA systems.

Does the Seeker store data on the device, or only in the cloud?

Both. The Seeker keeps 144 MB of onboard memory for local event recording and streams continuously to PMI’s PQ Canvass for unlimited cloud storage.

What communication options are available?

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and USB come standard. LTE cellular and Ethernet are available as options.

What voltage and current ranges does the Seeker measure?

0–600 V RMS continuous per phase (with 5 kV transient measurement) and 0–5,000 A RMS depending on the CT used, across four voltage and four current channels.

How accurate is the Seeker?

Voltage accuracy is ±0.33% of full scale. Current, power, and phase measurements are accurate to ±1.0% of full scale (without probe).

Does the Seeker need an external power supply?

No. The Seeker is line-powered, drawing power directly from the monitored line, so installation is as simple as connecting voltage leads and current transformers.

Does the Seeker include relay outputs or digital inputs?

Optional dual Form C relay outputs (2 independent relays) and 2 isolated digital inputs are available for controlling external equipment or monitoring field devices.

What happens to the Seeker during a power outage?

The Seeker has no batteries – onboard supercapacitors provide about one minute of ride-through power, which is enough to capture and report the outage event before it loses power.

Where can the Seeker be installed?

It’s rated NEMA 4X for outdoor use, including pole-mount deployment with the polemount option. It measures 5.06″ x 3.00″ x 1.81″ and weighs less than 1 lb.
