The PMI Bolt™ is a compact power quality recorder engineered for real-world field conditions where traditional instruments won’t fit. Designed as a meter base power quality recorder, it installs directly in meter bases, capacitor bank controllers, and tight enclosures to diagnose issues like flickering lights, voltage imbalance, and unexplained equipment shutdowns.

This affordable power quality analyzer helps utilities and industrial teams quickly identify root causes using simultaneous waveform capture power quality, harmonic analysis, and event recording—eliminating guesswork during power quality compliance monitoring. Whether you’re performing VFD power quality troubleshooting, investigating a voltage sag recorder event, or supporting distributed generation testing, the Bolt delivers accurate, actionable data.

With built-in Wi-Fi and optional LTE, it functions as a wireless power quality monitor, allowing safe, ground-level access to live and recorded data. The Cell Bolt version adds a power quality recorder with built-in LTE modem, ideal for remote or hard-to-access locations like distribution circuits and EV charging station power quality studies.

From utilities to contractors, the Bolt is the best compact power quality recorder for meter bases—combining portability, performance, and price in one powerful solution.

Features and Benefits

The PMI Bolt™ compact power quality recorder is purpose-built for fast deployment, accurate diagnostics, and modern wireless power quality monitoring across utility and industrial applications.

Its ultra-slim design makes it the ideal meter base power quality recorder, fitting easily into enclosures where bulkier systems fail. This enables efficient capacitor bank controller monitoring, transformer analysis, and field troubleshooting without additional mounting hardware.

As a true RMS power monitor, the Bolt captures voltage, current, and power data across 3 channels, delivering high-resolution waveform capture power quality, harmonic analysis to the 51st order, and standards-based flicker monitoring (IEEE 1453 / IEC 61000-4-15). It functions as both a harmonic analyzer and voltage sag recorder, allowing users to diagnose power disturbances and verify power quality compliance monitoring requirements.

The Bolt also excels in real-world applications, including VFD power quality troubleshooting, identifying the root cause of flickering lights, and supporting EV charging station power quality studies and distributed generation testing.

Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth provide instant access as a wireless power quality monitor, while the optional Cell Bolt adds LTE for full remote power quality monitoring—eliminating truck rolls. Data is automatically stored and accessed through PQ Canvass, enabling seamless cloud power quality recording and analysis.

With its NEMA 4X power recorder design, LED-guided installation, and line-powered operation, the Bolt is an affordable power quality analyzer for electric utilities that delivers reliable performance in any environment.

FAQ

What does the Bolt kit include?

The Bolt Recorder, a 3-channel 9″ Flex CT, USB cable, 24″ voltage cable (alligator or dolphin clip), mounting bracket, and soft case. Cell Bolt units also include a cell antenna.

Where can the Bolt be installed?

Its ultra-slim, NEMA 4X design fits directly in meter bases, capacitor bank controllers, and other tight enclosures where bulkier recorders won’t fit.

What communication options does the Bolt support?

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB come standard, with optional LTE on the Cell Bolt for remote, hard-to-access locations.

What is the Bolt’s sample rate and harmonics range?

It samples at 15,360 samples per second (256 samples per cycle) and measures harmonics up to the 51st order on both voltage and current.

How accurate is the Bolt?

Voltage accuracy is ±0.33% of full scale. Current and power are accurate to ±1.0% of full scale (without probe).

Does the Bolt keep recording during a power outage?

Yes. A super capacitor provides about 5 minutes of ride-through power, so the outage event itself gets captured.

Is the Bolt rated for outdoor or industrial environments?

Yes. It’s housed in a NEMA 4X enclosure, designed to IEC 61010-1 600V CAT III and UL Listed, and rated to operate from -20°F to +135°F.
