Cell Guardian Overview
The Cell Guardian is PMI’s premium meter/socket power quality recorder. It’s designed for long-term outdoor use in conjunction with the existing revenue meter. It has up to one gigabyte of memory, Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, and records power, harmonics, ITIC, and more.
But most importantly, it has a cell modem built in, so you can connect to your device from anywhere. Keep in mind, you should never install the Guardian in any meter base rated over 200 amps.
What’s Inside the Box
Let’s take a look inside the box. First, you’ll find the unit itself. On the front face of the Guardian, you can see the four blade openings for the existing revenue meter to plug into.
On the side, you’ll find the product label, which lists the serial number, contact information for PMI, and safety information and ratings. You’ll also see the meter sealing ring, the weatherproof communication port, and the indicator light.
On the back of the Guardian, there are four blades which attach into the meter base and a ground wire with integrated alligator clip.
Installing the Guardian
To install the Guardian, first remove the existing revenue meter, and install the Guardian in its place. Then simply plug the revenue meter into the front face of the Guardian and secure with the supplied ring.
Connecting and Viewing Data
To view the recorded data from the Guardian, connect the device to your computer via Wi-Fi, through a cell connection, or using the supplied USB cable. To attach the USB cord, align the divot on the cable to the plastic tab inside the port. Slide the cuff forward and tighten the knob.
Keep in mind, the USB cable insulation is not rated for contact with live voltage, so please use caution when using near energized conductors.
To view a live data stream, connect the Guardian to the computer via Wi-Fi or by using a cell connection using our web service, PQ Canvas.
